DIY: Vixen Crochet

I’ve wanted to try vixen crochet braids for as long as I can remember, I finally got around to making up my mind to get it done and when I asked around, the average price to have it done at a salon is 9000 Naira. Currently, I don’t have that type of money lying around so I decided to crawl out of my lazy shell and do it myself; best decision I’ve made in a while. It is really easy to do and easier if you have a friend that can assist with the braid pattern.

DIY: Scalp Exfoliator

As a huge fan of co-washing, I tend to accumulate tons of products and dead cells on my scalp which does nothing to help hair growth. Recently, I discovered ‘scalp exfoliating’ which not only cleanses your scalp thoroughly, but also gets rid of dead skin cells on the scalp.

I shampoo regularly, is this necessary?

Yes! It is necessary. Sometimes, shampooing gets rid of product build up but not always excess oil, natural sebum and dead skin cells which can clog your hair pores and prevent growth.

DIY: Satin Pillow Cover

Often times, I forget to don my satin scarf before going to bed. I’ve abandoned my satin bonnet because I wake up with headaches most mornings or it slips off my head, I only remember it when I have protective styles that involve ‘big hair’. So far, I haven’t found anywhere to buy satin pillow slips for regular-sized pillows and I keep postponing going to the market to have one sewn for me.

5 Things I’m Loving This Week

2/8/2015 – 9/8/2015

1.) This Bitch Of A Life

The Autobiography of Fela. This book is such an interesting read, I was sad to give it back to the owner. Although I disagree with some of Fela’s ideas on how women should be treated, the slangs and general humor of the book makes up for any misgiving I might have.

DIY: Crochet Wig

I apologize for being MIA these past weeks but I’ve been busy, and well lazy. I finally got off my lazy behind and made this crochet wig. Nobody tells you how much work it takes, I mean you would think it is pretty easy when you watch a 15-minute clip on YouTube but it takes a really long time and a good deal of patience.

What You’ll Need

Marley hair (or any bulk hair of your choice really)

Latch hook or big bobby pins

Mannequin head

Wig nets

Bendy rollers

Hot water

DIY: Faux Bun

For the most part of last week, I was leaving my hair in an Afro or a puff (because I’m not very much into styling), but I had a beauty event to attend in school and I wanted a decent look, so I went to my trusted source; hello YouTube! This style was so easy to pull off but not one I’d be doing regularly; because front hair issues.

DIY: Marley Faux Locs

Hey Guys!
After getting a lot of nice compliments on my crochet braids, I decided to push myself a bit further and when a friend mentioned faux locs, I was like why not? However, my eagerness and enthusiasm made me overlook some important things; like time! With our combined efforts, it took us over 8 hours to finish this hair! For someone like me, that is a lot of time to spend and it was exhausting. In the future, I’d rather do this over the weekend and take my time with it.
